AI Tooling Engineer at Supabase

About the Role

Supabase is seeking a highly skilled AI Tooling Engineer with strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript to help define how developers and AI agents build with our platform.

In this role, you will design and develop intelligent tooling, interfaces, and systems that power AI-driven workflows across Supabase products. You’ll collaborate across engineering, product, and documentation teams to create seamless developer experiences and scalable AI integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AI tooling across Supabase, including developer interfaces, agent capabilities, and MCP integrations
• Enhance the Supabase dashboard assistant into a powerful, self-serve tool for debugging and workflow automation
• Translate real-world customer AI use cases into improved product features, abstractions, and documentation
• Develop and implement evaluation frameworks to measure AI performance, reliability, and task success
• Improve how product knowledge and documentation are surfaced to AI agents
• Design reusable tools and patterns for integrating AI into applications (e.g., Edge Functions, embeddings, agents)
• Centralize AI logic to reduce duplication and improve system consistency
• Ensure high reliability through testing, benchmarking, and performance validation
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, CLI, and documentation teams
• Stay current with AI trends and apply practical, high-impact solutions for developers

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web development ecosystems
• Deep understanding of AI tools, agent workflows, and real-world implementation trade-offs
• Experience building developer tools, platforms, or technical product interfaces
• Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks and performance measurement
• Solid knowledge of Postgres and database best practices
• Experience with vector databases and embeddings (e.g., pgvector or similar)
• Strong testing mindset with a focus on reliability and scalability
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to Have

• Experience working with Edge Functions or serverless architectures
• Background in building AI-powered developer platforms or APIs
• Contributions to open-source projects
