About the Role
We are seeking a Payroll Risk & Compliance Expert to lead payroll compliance across African markets. In this role, you will act as the subject-matter expert on local payroll legislation, ensuring regulatory requirements are accurately translated into scalable systems, processes, and product features.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Operations teams to embed compliance into a global payroll platform. This role combines deep regulatory expertise with strategic thinking to support compliant, automated payroll at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage payroll compliance for assigned African jurisdictions
- Interpret local labor laws and translate them into payroll processes, system logic, and product requirements
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to ensure compliance is built into platform design and functionality
- Lead audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance programs across multiple countries
- Investigate payroll incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain SOPs, controls, and governance frameworks
- Create documentation, training materials, and knowledge resources for internal teams
- Provide compliance guidance for customer escalations and market expansion initiatives
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive compliance excellence
Requirements
- 3+ years’ experience in payroll, risk, or compliance within Africa
- Strong knowledge of local labor laws, tax regulations, and payroll processes
- Experience leading audits or compliance programs
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical/product specifications
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and investigative abilities
- Experience working in remote, fast-paced environments is a plus
