About the Role

AYCF is seeking an experienced Programs and Community Support Manager to lead the implementation, quality assurance, learning, and community engagement across its growing portfolio of youth-led climate initiatives.

This role will work closely with funded organisations throughout the grant lifecycle—providing technical support, strengthening organisational capacity, facilitating peer learning, monitoring programme delivery, and ensuring funded projects achieve meaningful impact.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening Africa’s youth climate ecosystem by building relationships with grantees, coordinating learning opportunities, improving programme quality, and generating evidence that informs future climate investments.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Portfolio Management

• Lead the coordination and oversight of AYCF’s grant portfolio.
• Support programme design across climate innovation, advocacy, research, movement building, and entrepreneurship.
• Coordinate onboarding of new grantees alongside the Grants & Operations Manager.
• Monitor implementation against approved work plans and programme objectives.
• Identify programme risks and recommend adaptive solutions.
• Facilitate portfolio review meetings and implementation support.

Grantee Support & Capacity Building

• Design and implement AYCF’s grantee support strategy.
• Conduct organisational capacity assessments.
• Coordinate mentoring, coaching, webinars, peer learning sessions, and technical assistance.
• Strengthen leadership, governance, project management, safeguarding, monitoring & evaluation, communications, and resource mobilisation capacity among grantees.
• Build an active community of youth-led organisations and alumni across Africa.

Programme Quality & Learning

• Develop programme quality standards and implementation tools.
• Conduct programme reviews and quality assurance assessments.
• Promote safeguarding, gender equality, inclusion, and ethical community engagement.
• Support adaptive programme management and continuous improvement.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Knowledge Management

• Implement AYCF’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning & Knowledge Management (MEL/KM) framework.
• Track programme performance and impact.
• Prepare donor reports, portfolio analyses, learning briefs, and impact stories.
• Document lessons learned and programme innovations.
• Strengthen organisational knowledge management systems.

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

• Build relationships with youth networks, research institutions, technical partners, mentors, and ecosystem actors.
• Represent AYCF at meetings, conferences, and learning events.
• Promote collaboration across Africa’s youth climate ecosystem.
• Support communications on programme achievements and impact.

Leadership & Team Coordination

• Provide strategic leadership across AYCF’s programme portfolio.
• Supervise programme staff, consultants, and technical partners where assigned.
• Contribute to organisational planning, budgeting, and resource mobilisation.
• Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

Requirements

Education

• Master’s degree in International Development, Climate Change, Environmental Management, Public Policy, Project Management, Social Sciences, Monitoring & Evaluation, Youth Development, or a related discipline.
• A Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.
• Professional certifications in programme management, safeguarding, MEL, facilitation, or organisational development are an advantage.

Experience

• 5–7 years of experience managing development programmes, grant portfolios, organisational development, or capacity-strengthening initiatives.
• Experience supporting youth-led organisations, civil society organisations, or grassroots movements.
• Demonstrated experience managing multi-country or multi-partner programmes.
• Experience designing and implementing MEL systems.
• Strong background in programme planning, implementation, reporting, and adaptive management.
• Experience facilitating workshops, mentoring, peer learning, and organisational development.

Experience within climate change, climate justice, sustainability, philanthropy, grant-making, or youth development programmes is highly desirable.
