About the Role

Supabase is seeking an experienced Performance Engineer – Benchmarking to help establish robust, repeatable, and reliable performance measurement across its products. As one of the first members of a newly formed performance engineering team, you’ll design benchmarking systems, build performance tooling, and help engineering teams detect and resolve performance regressions before they impact customers.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineers passionate about performance optimisation, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and benchmarking methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain benchmarking, profiling, and load-testing frameworks.
• Create benchmark suites and realistic workloads that reflect customer usage.
• Establish performance baselines and regression detection across products.
• Build automated workflows for performance analysis, reporting, and issue triage.
• Collaborate with database and infrastructure teams to identify bottlenecks and improve system performance.
• Enable engineering teams to run self-service performance testing.
• Produce accurate and repeatable benchmark results for internal teams and external customers.
• Continuously improve benchmarking infrastructure and performance measurement processes.

What You’ll Be Working On

• Building continuous benchmarking systems integrated into development workflows.
• Improving benchmark reliability through better workload generation and environment control.
• Developing tools that quickly identify the root cause of performance regressions.
• Helping engineering teams investigate and resolve performance issues independently.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in performance engineering, benchmarking, or systems performance analysis.
• Strong experience benchmarking and profiling distributed systems.
• Excellent understanding of databases, cloud infrastructure, networking, and storage systems.
• Experience building reliable and reproducible performance testing environments.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• A practical mindset focused on building scalable engineering tools.
