About the Role

Supabase is seeking an experienced Performance Engineer – Performance Analysis & Tuning to join its growing performance engineering team. In this role, you’ll identify, analyse, and resolve performance bottlenecks across the entire Supabase platform—from database internals and operating systems to cloud infrastructure and networking.

As one of the first members of the performance team, you’ll play a key role in shaping performance engineering practices while delivering measurable improvements across production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse production systems to identify and diagnose performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with database and infrastructure engineering teams to implement performance improvements.
  • Develop tools, methodologies, and frameworks for performance analysis.
  • Partner with observability teams to improve visibility into latency, throughput, and system performance.
  • Enable engineering teams to independently investigate and optimise performance issues.
  • Improve scalability across databases, operating systems, networking, and cloud infrastructure.

What You’ll Work On

  • Optimising Linux kernel paging behaviour for production workloads.
  • Reducing memory overhead in database storage engines.
  • Eliminating latency spikes across application, operating system, and infrastructure layers.
  • Identifying scalability limitations and driving cross-functional solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in performance engineering or systems performance analysis.
  • Strong experience analysing complex distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel internals or database internals.
  • Solid knowledge of networking, cloud infrastructure, and AWS performance optimisation.
  • Experience with performance profiling, tracing, benchmarking, and system diagnostics.
  • Ability to influence engineering teams and drive measurable performance improvements.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • A practical, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset.
